CAP Gets National Attention in Fossett Search

"Civil Air Patrol" - These words are being heard across the country this week on national news outlets including CBS News, Sports Illustrated Online and CNN, to mention a few. CAP is playing a major role in the search effort in Nevada to find missing pilot and aviation enthusiast, Steve Fossett.

The 63-year old is an accomplished sportsman and world record holding pilot and balloonist. He was last seen Monday, taking off in a single-engine Bellanca Super Decathlon which is considered a light aircraft. He was reported missing by a friend that evening.

In an interview, Nevada Civil Air Patrol PAO, Maj. Cynthia Ryan, pointed out to reporters that Fossett has prevailed in the past after experiencing complications during a flight. She explained that he once walked 30 miles for help after making a forced landing.
It's wonderful that CAP is getting attention for the efforts of the volunteers that make up the organization. Hopefully, at the very least, CAP will gain a bit of name recognition. And, hopefully, Mr. Fossett will be found alive.
